Diversity, equity, and inclusion statement

As participants in the Princeton Diplomatic Invitational, we come together to engage in diplomatic discourse and negotiation on a diverse array of global issues. To truly accomplish this, we must fully understand the importance of fostering an environment that embraces diversity, equity, and inclusion. We recognize that our gathering here is a privilege, and with that privilege comes the responsibility to uphold these fundamental principles.

The Princeton Diplomatic Invitational, in collaboration with the Princeton International Relations Council and Princeton University, is dedicated to creating a conference environment where every participant feels safe, valued, and empowered to engage fully. We maintain a zero-tolerance policy towards any form of disrespect or discrimination, and will take appropriate actions against violators as determined by conference leadership.

In alignment with our commitment to promoting a respectful and inclusive environment, this is a reminder that the the following actions are strictly prohibited within all conference activities, including committee sessions, crisis notes, and interactions between delegates:

  1. Discrimination: Any language or behavior that perpetuates unjust treatment based on race, ethnicity, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, or any other protected characteristic.

  2. Advocacy for war crimes, genocide, or mass violence: Delegates must refrain from endorsing or glorifying actions that constitute war crimes or gross violations of human rights, including genocidal acts or indiscriminate violence against civilian populations.

Personal attacks and harassment: Bullying, intimidation, or any form of unwelcome attention directed towards another individual is unacceptable and will not be tolerated.

We recognize the imperative of fostering an environment where diversity, equity, and inclusion are paramount. To this end:

  1. Encouraging Awareness of biases: We encourage all participants to be mindful of their own biases and assumptions, and to approach discussions with cultural sensitivity, empathy, and a willingness to challenge preconceived notions. Recognizing and addressing biases is essential to fostering an environment of inclusivity and mutual respect.

  2. Promoting Respectful Communication: It is our earnest expectation that delegates engage in discussions with diplomacy, tact, and professionalism. Express disagreements respectfully, refraining from resorting to inflammatory language or tactics. This commitment to respectful communication enhances the quality of discourse and promotes a positive conference experience for all.

Furthermore, we remind all participants that pre-writing of resolutions or other committee materials outside of official conference meetings is strictly prohibited. Violations of this policy may result in disqualification from awards and notification of faculty advisors.

Our goal is to ensure that the Princeton Diplomatic Invitational remains a platform for constructive dialogue, collaboration, and ethical engagement. Together, let us work towards creating an enriching and meaningful experience for all participants.
