The Waning Crescent: Abolition of the Caliphate, 1924

In the aftermath of the First World War, the Ottoman Empire has been dissolved into multiple nation-states, many of which are currently controlled by Great Britain. In Turkey, President Mustafa Kemal Ataturk has abolished the Caliphate, the institution that has united the Islamic World for over 1000 years. The Islamic World has suddenly lost its political and religious unity and identity. Coupled with the rise of ethnic nationalism, radical religious movements, European imperialism, and Zionism, the Middle East stands at a turning point in its history. What will be the future identity of the Islamic World? Decisions made in this committee will define the history of the region, the religion, and the world for another century and beyond.
