A Letter from the Secretary-General
Dear Faculty Advisors, Parents and Delegates,
It is my utmost pleasure to welcome you to the 8th Session of Princeton Model United Nations Conference (PMUNC), which will be held on November 15-18, 2018. Our conference aims to educate and encourage tomorrow’s leaders to collaborate together and target issues that are currently debated on the international stage. Over the 4 days, over 1000 high schoolers from all over the world will engage, learn and most importantly share their ideas with each other.
Our conference is hosted by Princeton University’s International Relations Council, a subsidiary of the American Whig-Cliosophic Society - the oldest collegiate political, literary, and debating society in the United States and still the largest student-run extracurricular body at Princeton. PMUNC is a conference that teaches diplomacy and decision-making by asking hard questions. We aim to cultivate serious discussions, and ultimately to further the skills required to reach a compromise and build a consensus. Often, this is not easy since our committees and their topics are designed to demonstrate the difficulty of international cooperation, particularly within the United Nations framework.
Princeton University has a longstanding commitment to service, and PMUNC aims to continue this trend of contributing to society and developing knowledge that will make a difference in the world. We have arranged delegates at our conference to have the opportunity to visit Princeton’s historic campus. During these tours, they will be able to attend admissions information sessions, explore the beautiful campus and talk with current students and professors, giving them a taste of the Princeton experience.
Since its inception, our conference has striven to deliver a realistic and comprehensive simulation of the United Nations and similar committees. Our team is committed to offering an opportunity to grow a broader perspective, take charge on influential and contentious issues, and foster cooperation between delegates, all while providing the same high-quality conference PMUNC is synonymous with. We are also proud to continue supporting our accessibility fund, providing assistance to delegations that would otherwise be unable to attend our conference for financial reasons.
PMUNC is completely organized and staffed by Princeton undergraduates. They represent the wide diversity of disciplines and backgrounds found on Princeton’s campus, and put in months of training and effort to ensure this conference is a worthwhile experience. They make it a fulfilling opportunity to create lasting memories, lifelong friendships and learn what it means to be a global citizen.
On behalf of the Secretariat of PMUNC 2018, I hope you can join us in November. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact our Chargé d’Affaires via email at firstname.lastname@example.org. In addition, keep checking our website as we continue to post more detailed information about the Conference.
I look forward to meeting all of you and see what you achieve at PMUNC 2018!
